Unemployment in Algeria falls to 11.1 pct by April
ALGIERS, July 18, 2018 (BSS/Xinhua) – Algeria’s unemployment rate fell to
11.1 percent by April 2018, down 0.6 percentage points from September 2017,
National Data and Statistics Office said in a report on Tuesday.
By April this year, the report recorded 1.38 million unemployed people,
compared with 1.44 million in September 2017 and 1.51 million in April 2017.
Unemployment rate among men is estimated at 9 percent, and 19.5 percent
for women, the source added.
The report showed that by April, 26.4 percent of unemployed people in
Algeria were young people aged between 16 and 24, compared with 28.3 percent
in September 2017.
An IMF report has forecast an unemployment rate of 11.7 percent in Algeria
by the end of 2018.
