COVID-19 cases reach 16,340 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 2, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
rapidly reached 16,340 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues
rising during the last three consecutive weeks.

“The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,340 as 24 more patients were
reported after testing 282 samples with the infection rate of 8.51 percent on
Thursday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break up of total 16,340 patients stands at 4,185 in
Rangpur, 806 in Panchagarh, 1,399 in Nilphamari, 978 in Lalmonirhat, 1,038 in
Kurigram, 1,547 in Thakurgaon, 4,877 in Dinajpur and 1,510 in Gaibandha of
the division.

Since the outbreak of pandemic, a total of 1,15,214 collected samples were
tested in the division till Thursday, and of them, 16,340 were found COVID-19
positive with an average infection rate of 14.18 percent.

At the same time, the total number of healed persons from COVID-19 reached
15,660 with recovery of 20 more patients on Thursday with the average
recovery rate of 95.84 percent here.

The 15,660 recovered patients include 4,012 of Rangpur, 776 of Panchagarh,
1,339 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,485 of
Thakurgaon, 4,650 of Dinajpur and 1,461 of Gaibandha districts.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady at 315 with no more death reported from
anywhere in the division on Thursday.

The district-wise break up of the 315 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
114 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,340 COVID-19 infected patients, 46 are undergoing
treatments at institutional isolation, including nine at ICU beds, after
recovery of 15,660 patients and 315 deaths while 337 are remaining in home
isolation across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 97,537 people were put in
quarantine, and of them, 94,275 were released till Friday morning in the
division.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,54,335 citizens, including 3,33,602 male and
2,20,753 female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated till
Thursday since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu today
urged people to genuinely abide by the health directives as the infection
rate continues rising rapidly.
