Boro paddy farming target exceeds in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, April 02, 2021 (BSS) – The Boro paddy farming target has
exceeded in all the seven upazilas of the district during the current season
with fixing the production target of 5, 43,000 tonnes of clean rice.

Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) here had set a target to bring a
total of 1,25,500 hectares of land under Boro cultivation this year. But the
target has exceeded by 2350 hectares.

DAE officials said 20,611 hectares of land were brought under Boro farming
in Sadar upazila, 15,656 in Sadullapur upazila, 12, 642 in Palashbari
upazila, 29,583 in Gobindaganj upazila, 25,867 in Sundarganj upazila, 13,612
in Shaghata upazila and 7529 in Fulchhari upazila of the district.

The transplanted seedlings of Boro paddy have already grown well and the
paddy fields turned into greenish look.

The growers are so much busy in nurturing the paddy field with the hope of
getting desired production of the crop this season.

In order to make the cultivation programme a grand success, Bangladesh
Agricultural Development Corporation distributed high quality Boro seed to
the farmers at fair prices through its sale centers and approved dealers,
office sources said.

Besides, different state run commercial banks including Rajshahi Krishi
Unnayan Bank (RAKUB) are disbursing agri loans on easy terms to the poor and
marginal farmers to help them cultivate the Boro paddy, said M. Sarwar
Hossain, zonal manager of RAKUB here.

In addition, DAE has been imparting training to the farmers on adopting
modern technologies for paddy cultivation, crop management and production of
quality seed, said an official.

To ensure the production of the Boro paddy in the district this year,
Barind Multipurpose Development Authority (BMDA) kept its electricity-run 505
deep tube wells fully functional, said executive engineer M. Azadul Islam.

Talking to BSS, deputy director of DAE agriculturist Masudur Rahman said
necessary measures have been taken for availability of fertilizers,
insecticides and other agriculture inputs at the grassroots level during the
current Boro season.
