Light engineering sector should be moved forward : Ali Azam

DHAKA, April 1, 2021 (BSS) – Industries Secretary KM Ali Azam today said that the light engineering sector should be moved forward through integrating it with modern technology.

He also said that it is possible to unleash development in this light engineering sector through utilizing talents and skills.

The Industries Secretary said this while addressing an inter-ministerial meeting virtually as chair to review the progress on the recommendations of the Industries Ministry taken to flourish this sector.

Azam stressed the need for creating skilled manpower and managers in the light engineering sector through Bangladesh Industrial Technical Assistance Center (BITAC).

In this regard, he emphasized on creating time befitting education curriculum.

The Industries Secretary said the light engineering sector is now the most potential sectors of the country while there is a need to ensure planned flourishment of this sector to materialize the goal of turning Bangladesh into an industrially developed country.

For this, there is a need to build more industrial parks and research firms side by side increasing facilities for imparting improved training.

Industries Ministry additional secretary Md Jafar Ullah highlighted the progress of the recommendations taken by the Ministry to further move forward this light engineering sector.

BSCIC Chairman Md Mostaque Hasan, BITAC director general Anowar Hossain Chowdhury, Industries Ministry additional secretary Shibnath Roy, Bangladesh Light Engineering Shilpa Malik Samity President Md Abdur Razzaque and representatives from the Ministries of Commerce, Foreign Affairs, Financial Institutions Division, NBR, Bangladesh Bank and FBCCI were present.

Apart from reviewing the progress of the already taken decisions, the meeting was informed that the BSCIC has already started preparations for setting up light engineering industrial park after identifying the potential areas.

The meeting also stressed the need for finalizing the draft of the Light Engineering Industrial Policy as early as possible.
