COVID-19 cases cross 16,300 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, April 1, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
cases quickly crossed the 16,300 mark in Rangpur division where the infection
rate continues rising again during the last three weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to
16,316 as 37 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the
infection rate of 9.84 percent on Wednesday in the division.

“The infection rate is showing a rising trend again in all eight
districts of Rangpur division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant
Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of total 16,316 patients stands at 4,176 in
Rangpur, 806 in Panchagarh, 1,398 in Nilphamari, 976 in Lalmonirhat, 1,038 in
Kurigram, 1,546 in Thakurgaon, 4,872 in Dinajpur and 1,504 in Gaibandha of
the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,14,932 collected samples were tested
in the division till Wednesday, and of them, 16,316 were found COVID-19
positive with an average infection rate of over 14.20 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,640
with recovery of 14 more patients on Wednesday at the average recovery rate
of 95.86 percent in the division.

The 15,640 recovered patients include 4,000 of Rangpur, 776 of
Panchagarh, 1,339 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,485
of Thakurgaon, 4,649 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady 315 with one more death reported from
Dinajpur on Wednesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 315 fatalities stands at 73 in
Rangpur, 114 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the
division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,316 COVID-19 infected patients, 47 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,640 patients and 315
deaths while 332 remaining in home isolation across the division.

A total of 97,368 people of the division were put in quarantines since
the outbreak of the pandemic, and of them, 94,182 released till Thursday
morning.

Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, a total of 5,47,856 citizens, including 3,30,205 male and 2,17,651
female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated in the
division till Wednesday, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
everyone to abide by the health directives to check the rising trend in the
coronavirus infection rate.
