Coronavirus: 16,279 infected, 15,626 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 31, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 16,279 people have been infected with coronavirus (COVID-19), and of them, 15,626 cured so far since the outbreak of the pandemic in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the infection rate continues to show a rising trend again during the last three weeks in the division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues smoothly since February 7 last.

The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,279 as 28 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 7.45 percent on Tuesday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,14,556 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Tuesday, and of them, 16,279 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.21 percent.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,279 patients stands at 4,171 in Rangpur, 806 in Panchagarh, 1,392 in Nilphamari, 975 in Lalmonirhat, 1,036 in Kurigram, 1,542 in Thakurgaon, 4,857 in Dinajpur and 1,500 in Gaibandha of the division,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

The number of total recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,626 with the healing of 14 more infected people on Tuesday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 95.99 percent in the division.

The 15,626 recovered patients include 3,999 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,335 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,485 of Thakurgaon, 4,643 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 314 with one more death reported from Dinajpur on Tuesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 314 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 113 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division.

Among the total 16,279 COVID-19 infected patients, 28 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,626 patients and 314 deaths while 311 remaining in home isolations across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 97,285 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 94,141 released till this morning.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last, a total of 5,42,111 citizens, including 3,26,990 male and 2,15,121 female, were vaccinated in the division till Monday last,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu asked everyone to abide by the health directives to check the rising trend in the COVID-19 infection rate.
