COVID-19 cases reach 16,251 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 30, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases rapidly reached 16,251 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising during the last three consecutive weeks.

“The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,251 as 34 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples at the infection rate of 9.04 percent on Monday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The district-wise break up of total 16,251 patients stands at 4,166 in Rangpur, 803 in Panchagarh, 1,392 in Nilphamari, 974 in Lalmonirhat, 1,034 in Kurigram, 1,538 in Thakurgaon, 4,845 in Dinajpur and 1,499 in Gaibandha of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,14,180 collected samples were tested in the division till Monday, and of them, 16,151 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.23 percent.

At the same time, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,612 with recovery of six more patients on Monday at the average recovery rate of 96.07 percent in the division.

The 15,612 recovered patients include 3,999 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,329 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of Thakurgaon, 4,637 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities rose to 313 with one more death reported from Dinajpur in the division on Monday.

The district-wise break up of the 313 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 112 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 16,151 COVID-19 infected patients, 28 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,612 patients and 313 deaths while 298 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 97,194 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 94,072 released till Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile, a total of 5,42,111 citizens, including 3,26,990 male and 2,15,121 female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated till Monday since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu has suggested people to genuinely abide by the health directives as the infection rate continues rising hastily now.
