MANIKGANJ, March 29, 2021 (BSS) – The farmers of in the district are expecting a bumper production of wheat during the current season amid suitable climatic conditions everywhere in the district.
Department of Agriculture Extension (DAE) sources said that they set a target for cultivating wheat on 400 hectares of land with a production target of 1360 metric tons. But wheat was cultivated in 1630 hectares in the district about four times of fixed target.
DAE sources said in recent years, the cultivation of wheat declined in the district, but the farmers are showing interest to cultivate this food grain in all seven upazilas of the district.
Ahmed Ali, a farmer of Daulatpur area of the district, said the condition of wheat farming is good since its farming started in the area due to suitable weather and fertile land this season. He said the supply of all agricultural inputs were completed in due time.”
Abdul Huq, one of the wheat cultivators under Manikganj Sadar Upazila of the district said, “Wheat farming have been enhanced to a greater extent in the region due to various reasons for the last couple of years. Wheat is one of the less-irrigation consuming crops and it has a great demand in the markets round the year.”
The harvesting of wheat has already started in all seven upazilas of the district, the DAE sources said.
