First metro rail set to anchor Mongla tomorrow

DHAKA, March 29, 2021 (BSS) – The first set of metro rail Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) will anchor at the Mongla port tomorrow afternoon (Tuesday).

“The mother vessel loaded with metro train set left Matarbari at 4pm today, which will anchor at the Mongla port tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon,” Managing Director of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) M A N Siddique told BSS here today.

He said a mother vessel having six coaches left Kobe port, Japan towards Mongla port, Bangladesh on March 4, adding, “We hope that the train set will reach Uttara metro rail depot on April 23 and the second metro rail set will be shipped on April 15 from Kobe port.”

Siddique said the DMTCL instructed all workers and experts to follow the health guidelines strictly during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In order to deal with the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, a 10-bed isolation center (Field Hospital) at the Gabtoli construction site and a 14-bed isolation center (Field Hospital) at Uttara Ponchoboti construction yard were constructed, he said.

“If necessary, more residential establishments will be built. Workers are usually engaged in construction works after checking COVID-19 test and if they are found negative then they join works, the managing director said.

He said persons infected with COVID-19 were kept under home or institutional quarantine and if needed, they were admitted to a dedicated hospital.

According to the project details, integrated tests of the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line-6 will be carried out before formal operation and the trial runs will also be carried out after integrated test of the metro rail sets.

It said the length of the metro rail route up to Motijheel was 20.10 km. But now it has been extended to Kamalapur Railway Station by 1.16 km. As a result, the number of stations was also increased to 16.

There will be a total of 16 stations on the 21 km route of the Mass Rapid Transit-MRT Line-6. The stations are: Uttara North, Uttara Center, Uttara South, Pallabi, Mirpur-11, Mirpur-10, Kazipara, Shewrapara, Agargaon, Bijoy Sarawni, Framgate, Karwan Bazar, Shahbag, Dhaka University, Bangladesh Secretariat and Motijheel.
