COVID-19 cases cross 16,200-mark in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 29, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
quickly crossed 16,200 mark in the division while the infection rate
continues rising again in the last three weeks here.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to 16,217
as 32 more patients were reported after testing 376 samples with the
infection rate of 8.51 percent on Sunday in the division.

“The COVID-19 infection rate is showing a rising trend again in Rangpur
division in recent weeks,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director
(Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of total 16,217 patients stands at 4,161 in
Rangpur, 803 in Panchagarh, 1,392 in Nilphamari, 973 in Lalmonirhat, 1,033 in
Kurigram, 1,536 in Thakurgaon, 4,826 in Dinajpur and 1,493 in Gaibandha.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,13,804 collected samples were tested in
the division till Sunday, and of them, 16,217 were found COVID-19 positive
with an average infection rate of over 14.25 percent.

Meanwhile, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,606 with
recovery of 10 more patients on Sunday at the average recovery rate of 96.23
percent in the division.

The 15,606 recovered patients include 3,995 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh,
1,329 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of
Thakurgaon, 4,635 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the number of fatalities remained steady 312 with one more death reported
from anywhere on Sunday.

The district-wise break-up of the total fatalities now stands at 73 in
Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.92 percent in the
division,” he added.

Among the total 16,217 COVID-19 infected patients, 28 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,606 patients and 312
deaths while 271 remaining in home isolation across the division.

A total of 97,082 people of the division were put in quarantines since the
outbreak of the pandemic, and of them, 94,030 released till Monday morning.

Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last,
a total of 5,37,019 citizens– 3,24,054 male and 2,12,965 female– of all
eight districts in the division, were vaccinated in the division till Sunday,
Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said
everyone must abide by the health directives to check the rising trend of
COVID-19 infection rate.
