COVID-19 cases reach 16,185 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 28, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases reached 16,185 in Rangpur division where the infection rate continues rising hastily in the last three weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to 16,185 as 30 more patients were reported after testing 280 samples at the infection rate of 10.36 percent on Saturday in the division.

“The daily infection rate crossed the 10 percent mark on March 24 last for the first time since December 26 last year in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The district-wise break up of total 16,185 patients stands at 4,158 in Rangpur, 801 in Panchagarh, 1,389 in Nilphamari, 973 in Lalmonirhat, 1,031 in Kurigram, 1,532 in Thakurgaon, 4,811 in Dinajpur and 1,490 in Gaibandha of the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,13,428 collected samples were tested in the division till Saturday, and of them, 16,185 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 14.27 percent.

At the same time, the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,596 with recovery of five more patients on Saturday at the average recovery rate of 96.36 percent in the division.

The 15,596 recovered patients include 3,990 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,328 of Nilphamari, 957 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of Thakurgaon, 4,631 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 312 with no more death reported from anywhere in the division on Saturday.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 16,185 COVID-19 infected patients, 22 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,596 patients and 312 deaths while 255 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 96,986 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,974 released till Saturday morning.

“Meanwhile, a total of 5,29,644 citizens, including 3,19,776 male and 2,09,868 female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated till Saturday since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu has suggested people to sincerely abide by the health directives as the infection rate continues rising again.
