Rajshahi accident: bus driver held
RAJSHAHI, March 27, 2021 (BSS)- Police arrested the driver of Hanif Paribahan today in a case filed over yesterday’s fatal road accident that left 17 people dead in Rajshahi .
Golam Ruhul Quddus, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), said driver Abdul Rahim was arrested from Mahindra bypass area under Puthiya Upazila around 2 pm.
He also said a case has been lodged with Katakhali Police Station in connection with the road accident today.
Bodies of the 17 dead were handed over to their relatives after post mortem today.
Meanwhile, a seven-member committee has been formed to probe the accident with Additional District Magistrate Abu Aslam as its convener.
Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil told BSS that the committee has been asked to submit the report at the quickest possible time .
He also said TK 10,000 was given to each deceased family for burial purposes. Besides, the district administration has also arranged measures for reaching the bodies to their respective families.
A total of 17 people were killed in a tri-dimensional road accident in Kapasia area on the Rajshahi-Dhaka highway under Katakhali Police Station in the city on Friday.
Police said the accident occurred when a Dhaka-bound passengers’ bus belongs to Hanif Paribahan, a Rajshahi-bound microbus and a local human hauler collided head-on around 2 pm.
Ruhul Quddus said all 11 passengers of the microbus were burnt to death as its gas cylinder exploded and caught fire after the incident.
Six other people succumbed to their injuries at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
Two others were undergoing treatment at the hospital, the police officer said.
Of the deceased, 11 are male, four female and two minors.
