Coronavirus: 16,156 infected, 15,591 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 27, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 16,156 people have been
infected, and of them, 15,591 cured in the division since the outbreak of the
coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Health officials said the infection rate continues to show a rising trend
again in the division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues
smoothly since February 7 last. The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16,156
as 12 more patients were reported after testing 190 samples with the
infection rate of 6.32 percent on Friday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,13,148 collected samples of Rangpur division were
tested till Friday, and of them, 16,156 people were found COVID-19 positive
with an average infection rate of 14.28 percent.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,156 patients stands at 4,156 in
Rangpur, 801 in Panchagarh, 1,381 in Nilphamari, 973 in Lalmonirhat, 1,031 in
Kurigram, 1,529 in Thakurgaon, 4,797 in Dinajpur and 1,488 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui said.

The number of total recovered patients rose to 15,591 with the healing of
two more infected people on Friday in the division.

The average recovery rate currently stands at 96.83 percent in the
division.

The 15,591 recovered patients include 3,990 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh,
1,328 of Nilphamari, 955 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483 of
Thakurgaon, 4,628 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the number of fatalities remained steady at 312 with no more death reported
on Friday in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.93 percent in the
division.

Among the total 16,156 COVID-19 infected patients, 17 are undergoing
treatment at isolation units after recovery of 15,591 patients and 312 deaths
while 236 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 96,838 people of the
division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,732 released till Saturday
morning,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu asked
everyone to abide by the health directives to check the current rising trend
of COVID-19 infection.
