Argentina’s COVID-19 deaths tops 55,000

BUENOS AIRES, March 25, 2021 (BSS/Xinhua) – Argentina on Thursday logged
146 new COVID-19 deaths over the past 24 hours, bringing the nationwide death
toll to 55,092, its health ministry said.

Meanwhile, the country registered 8,238 new cases, raising the national
tally to 2,278,115.

The hardest-hit province of Buenos Aires reported 953,840 cases, followed
by the city of Buenos Aires, with 252,580 cases.

On Thursday, the Buenos Aires City Legislature passed a law exempting
hotels from paying the lighting, sweeping and cleaning tax from April to
September, as a fiscal relief measure for a sector seriously affected by
COVID-19.

According to data from the Federation of Commerce and Industry of the City
of Buenos Aires, 16,800 businesses have closed in the capital due to the
grave economic impact caused by the pandemic.

Argentina remains under preventive social distancing measures until April
9, as ordered by the administration of President Alberto Fernandez.
