COVID-19 cases rapidly cross 16,100 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 25, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
cases rapidly crossed the 16,100 mark in Rangpur division where the infection
rate continues rising again during the last three weeks.

Health officials said the number of COVID-19 cases hastily rose to
16,104 as 40 more patients, the highest number in almost four months, were
reported after testing 273 samples at the infection rate of 10.72 percent on
Wednesday in the division.

“The COVID-19 infection rate is showing a rising trend again in Rangpur
division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

The district-wise break up of total 16,104 patients stands at 4,137 in
Rangpur, 797 in Panchagarh, 1,377 in Nilphamari, 970 in Lalmonirhat, 1,030 in
Kurigram, 1,525 in Thakurgaon, 4,785 in Dinajpur and 1,483 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui said.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,12,601 collected samples were tested
in the division till Wednesday, and of them, 16,104 were found COVID-19
positive with an average infection rate of over 14.30 percent.

Meanwhile the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,581
with recovery of 26 more patients on Wednesday at the average recovery rate
of 96.75 percent in the division.

The 15,581 recovered patients include 3,986 of Rangpur, 773 of
Panchagarh, 1,328 of Nilphamari, 955 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,483
of Thakurgaon, 4,622 of Dinajpur and 1,454 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady 212 with one more death reported from
anywhere on Wednesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,”
he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,104 COVID-19 infected patients, 11 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,581 patients and 312
deaths while 200 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, a total of 5,12,621 citizens, including 3,10,922 male and 2,01,699
female of all eight districts in the division, were vaccinated in the
division till Wednesday, Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said
the vaccination campaign continues satisfactorily since February 7 last in
Rangpur division.

“To check the present rising trend in the spread of COVID-19 infection
in the division, everyone must abide by the health directives and wear masks
while remaining outside, even after taking the COVID-19 vaccines,” Dr. Lyzu
added.
