Rangpur records highest 39 COVID-19 cases in 4 months

RANGPUR, March 24, 2021 (BSS) – Thirty-nine more people, the highest number in about four months, were diagnosed with coronavirus positive at over 10 percent infection rate today in Rangpur division.

Health officials said the 39 new cases were reported after diagnosing 367 samples at two COVID-19 laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 10.63 percent.

Among the 39 new patients diagnosed, 18 were reported positive after diagnosing 179 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The 18 new patients include 15 from Rangpur, two from Nilphamari and one from Kurigram districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu told BSS tonight.

On the other hand, 21 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 21 new patients include 19 from Dinajpur and one each from Panchagarh and Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process tonight.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,103 as 39 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,103 patients stands at 4,137 in Rangpur, 797 in Panchagarh, 1,377 in Nilphamari, 970 in Lalmonirhat, 1,030 in Kurigram, 1,525 in Thakurgaon, 4,785 in Dinajpur and 1,482 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui said.
