16,024 infected with Covid, 15,537 cured in Rangpur

RANGPUR, March 22, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 16,024 people have been infected, and of them, 15,537 were cured in all eight districts of Rangpur division since the beginning of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Health officials said the infection rate continues rising again in the division where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues smoothly creating huge enthusiasm among common people.

The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 16, 024 as nine more patients were reported after testing 189 samples at 4.76 percent infection rate on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,11,688 collected samples of Rangpur division were tested till Sunday, and of them, 16,024 people were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of 14.35 percent.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,024 patients stands at 4,098 in Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,372 in Nilphamari, 969 in Lalmonirhat, 1,028 in Kurigram, 1,522 in Thakurgaon, 4,761 in Dinajpur and 1,478 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui said.

At the same time, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,537 with the healing of three more infected people on Sunday in the division at the average recovery rate of 96.96 percent .

The 15,537 recovered patients include 3,977 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,312 of Nilphamari, 955 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,482 of Thakurgaon, 4,609 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 212 with no more death reported on Sunday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.95 percent in the division.

Among the total 16,024 COVID-19 infected patients, 12 are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,537 patients and 312 deaths while 163 remaining in home isolations across the division.

A total of 4,78,262 citizens, including 2,92,551 male and 1,85,711 female, were vaccinated with the COVID-19 vaccines in the division till Sunday since launching of the vaccination campaign from February 7 last.

“Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 96,200 people of the division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,508 released till Monday morning,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu asked everyone to abide by the health directives to check the spread of the COVID-19 infection in the division.
