Coronavirus: 1,11,500 samples tested in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 21, 2021 (BSS) – A total of 1,11,500 samples of suspected
coronavirus (COID-19) infected people collected from all eight districts in
Rangpur division have been tested since the beginning of the pandemic.

Health officials said a total of 16,015 people have so far been reported
COVID-19 positive after testing 1,11,500 samples at the average infection
rate of 14.36 percent in the division.

On Saturday, 10 new cases were reported after diagnosing 167 samples at
the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of
5.99 percent.

“The infection rate continues rising during the last weeks in the division
after remaining below the five percent mark for more than one month,” said
Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division
Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, 15,535 people among the total 16,015 infected were recovered
till Saturday at the average recovery rate of 97 percent in the division
where the COVID-19 vaccination campaign continues smoothly since February 7
last.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,015 patients stands at 4,095 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,371 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,028 in
Kurigram, 1,522 in Thakurgaon, 4,757 in Dinajpur and 1,478 in Gaibandha,” Dr.
Siddiqui said.

Presently, the 15,535 recovered patients include 3,977 of Rangpur, 773 of
Panchagarh, 1,313 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,482
of Thakurgaon, 4,607 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the number of fatalities remained steady at 212 with no more death reported
on Saturday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur,
111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in
Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,”
he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.95 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,015 COVID-19 infected patients, 12 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,535 patients and 308
deaths while 156 remaining in home isolations across the division.

“A total of 4,66,251 citizens, including 2,86,268 male and 1,79,983
female, have been immunised with the COVID-19 vaccines in the division till
Saturday since launching of the vaccination campaign from February 7 last,”
Dr. Ali added.

Since the outbreak of the pandemic, a total of 96,162 people of the
division were put in quarantines, and of them, 93,483 released till Sunday
morning.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
people to abide by the health directives to stop the spread of the deadly
virus.
