Bangladesh to be a developed welfare state by 2041: Hasan

DHAKA, March 20, 2021 (BSS) – Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today said Bangladesh is heading towards becoming a developed welfare state by 2041 under the leadership of Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina.

“The nation is going to celebrate the golden jubilee of independence when the country achieved the final recommendation for Bangladesh’s transition to a developing nation from least-developed country status. And the nation is heading towards becoming a developed welfare state by 2041. It will be possible under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.

The minister made the comments while addressing a cultural function at Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Friday night.

Awami League Sub-committee on International Affairs and Indian High Commission to Bangladesh jointly organised the function.

Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka Vikram Doraiswami, the US ambassador Earl Miller, Saudi Arabian ambassador Essa Yussef Essa Al Dulaihan, Australian high commissioner Jeremy Bruer, AL international affairs secretary Dr Shammi Ahmed, senior officials of different embassies and AL leaders, took part in the function.

Hasan said Bangladesh is one of the countries across the globe which achieved highest economic growth amid coronavirus pandemic under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Bangladesh’s position is the third among 22 countries which achieved positive GDP during the COVID19 situation,” he added.

And, the position of the country (Bangladesh) in combating Coronavirus is in top in South Asia and 20th across the globe, said Hasan, also Awami League joint general secretary.

He said Bangladesh was a country of food-deficit, but now it becomes a food-surplus country.

In his speech, the minister recalled the role of Indian army and common people during the Liberation War of Bangladesh, saying the friendship of the two countries has raised a new height under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi.
