ICT sentences 4 Moulvibazar Razakars to death

DHAKA, July 16, 2018 (BSS) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) -1
today sentenced four Razakars from Rajnagar, Moulvibazar, to death for their
monstrous crimes against humanity committed in 1971.

“…They were convicted and condemned to the ‘sentence of death’ and
they will be hanged by the neck till they are dead,” said Justice Md Shahinur
Islam, chairman of the three-member tribunal.

The tribunal passed the judgement as it found Akmal Ali Talukder, 79,
Abdun Nur Talukder alias Lal Miah, 66, Anis Miah, 80, and Abdul Mosabbir
Miah, 67, guilty in both the charges.

Of the four, only Akmal was present during the pronouncement of the
verdict, as the three others are yet to be arrested and were tried in
absentia.

The tribunal sentenced them death for committing genocide as described in
charge number one and were sentenced to ‘imprisonment for life till
biological death’ for committing confinement, torture, abduction and murder
as described in charge number two.

“However, as the convicts have been condemned to ‘sentences of death’ ,
as above, the ‘sentence of imprisonment for life’ awarded in respect of
charge no two will get merged into the ‘sentences of death’ as awarded
above,” the verdict added.

The first tribunal on March 27 kept the verdict on CAV (Curia Advisari
Vult, a Latin legal term reserving judgment until some subsequent day) as the
hearing in the case ended on that day.

The tribunal on May 7, 2017, indicted the four, framing two charges of
crimes against humanity against them.
