Inu for anchoring philosophy for political, economic advancement

DHAKA, July 17, 2-18(BSS)-Information minister Hasanul Haq Inu, MP, said
today that the nation needs an anchoring philosophy to go forward, both
politically and economically.

“Bangabandhu had provided that through the four state principles:
democracy, socialism, nationalism and secularism,” he added.

The minister was addressing a meeting orgnaised by the Economic Reporters’
Forum (ERF) at its office at Paltan Tower. ERF honored twelve of its member
authors including former general secretary of National Press Club Quamrul
Islam Chowdhury, Shamsul Alam Belal of BSS, Dhaka Reporters Unity former
president Jamaluddin of Daily Ittefaq, Kawser Ahmed of Daily Janakantha, DUJ
former general secretary Sajjad Alam Tapu of Jamuna TV who shared their
reflections.

“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had that vision. So she was engaged in
several mega projects which would transform the economy and make the national
market more competitive and connected, ” he said.

He referred to the Padma Bridge which would bring the national economy more
efficient and the Karnafuli tunnel and other projects in south-eastern
Bangladesh which would connect Bangladesh with South-East Asia.

The BNP never took up such projects as they never had the vision for a
prosperous and self-reliant country. He said proudly that Bangladesh was
today capable of implementing projects, even mega-projects, with its own
funds.

“Bangladesh is no longer a basket case. Now it is one of the fastest
growing economies of the world,” he said.

Referring to the economic philosophy of the incumbent government he said
“Unlike BNP we’ve not surrendered to the market forces but with strong
intervention we are making it work for the betterment of the people.”

He also said “apart from the mega project, the government was investing in
Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs) and social safety nets to make the economy
inclusive and participatory.”

“For inclusive politics and participatory economy we need to get rid of war
criminals and Razakars, as well as ensure a better living for all citizens,”
he said.

ERF president Saiful Islam Dilal presided over the meeting. ERF members
