COVID-19 cases cross 16,000 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 20, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
cases has crossed the 16,000 mark in Rangpur division where the infection
rate is rising again almost during the last two weeks.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 16,005 as six more infections
were reported on Friday in the division,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS
today.

The six positive cases were diagnosed after testing 190 samples at the
two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Friday at the daily infection
rate of 3.16 percent.

The district-wise break up of 16,005 patients stands at 4,095 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,368 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,027 in
Kurigram, 1,521 in Thakurgaon, 4,755 in Dinajpur and 1,475 in Gaibandha in
the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,11,332 collected samples were tested
in the division till Friday, and of them, 16,005 were found COVID-19 positive
with an average infection rate of over 14.38 percent.

Meanwhile the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,533
with recovery of three more patients on Friday at the average recovery rate
of 97.05 percent in the division.

The 15,533 recovered patients include 3,977 of Rangpur, 773 of
Panchagarh, 1,312 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,482
of Thakurgaon, 4,606 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities rose to 212 with one more death reported from Nilphamari
on Friday in the division.

The district-wise break-up of the 312 fatalities stands at 73 in
Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 31 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the
division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.95 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 16,005 COVID-19 infected patients, 10 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,533 patients and 312
deaths while 150 remaining in home isolation across the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 96,151 people of the division were put
in institutional isolation or home quarantines, and of them, 93,471 released
till Saturday morning.

“A total of 4,57,686 citizens, including 2,81,579 male and 1,76,106
female, were vaccinated in the division till Thursday since launching of the
COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said
the vaccination campaign continues satisfactorily since February 7 last in
Rangpur division.

“Everyone should genuinely abide by the health directives and wear masks
while remaining outside, even after taking the COVID-19 vaccines, to check
the present rising trend in the spread of COVID-19 infection in the
division,” Dr. Lyzu added.
