22 held for attacking houses of Hindus in Sunamganj

SUNAMGANJ, March 19, 2021 (BSS) – Police have detained 22 people for
attacking Hindu houses at Noagaon village under Shalla upazila of the
district.

However, details of the detainees have not been disclosed. Officer-in-
Charge of Shalla Thana Nazmul Haque said operation was under way for
arresting other people who vandalized and looted Hindu houses at the village
on Wednesday.

On March 17, a total of 88 Hindu houses at Naogaon village in Shalla
upazila were ransacked and looted allegedly by the supporters of Hefajet-e-
Islam over Facebook row.

Two cases were filed in this regard.

One of the cases was lodged by the police, accusing some 1,500 unnamed
people and the other by Habibpur Union Parishad Chairman Vivekananda Majumder
Bakul against 50 named and around 1,500 unnamed people.

Police and Rapid Action Battalion set up their camps at the village to
avoid any untoward situation.
