COVID-19 cases reach 15,999 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 19, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases
has reached 15,999 in Rangpur division where the infection rate is rising
again during the last more than one week.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,999 as 21 more infections, the
highest number in the last more than two months, were reported on Thursday in
the division,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

The 21 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 248 samples at the two
COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Thursday with the daily infection
rate of 8.47 percent.

“Earlier, the infection rate remained below the five percent almost during
the last more than one month and below the 10 percent mark during the
previous more than two months in the division,” he said.

The district-wise break up of 15,999 patients stands at 4,093 in Rangpur,
796 in Panchagarh, 1,368 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,027 in
Kurigram, 1,519 in Thakurgaon, 4,753 in Dinajpur and 1,475 in Gaibandha in
the division.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,11,233 collected samples were tested in
the division till Thursday, and of them, 15,999 were found COVID-19 positive
with an average infection rate of over 14.38 percent.

Meanwhile the total number of healed COVID-19 patients reached 15,530 with
recovery of 11 more patients on Thursday with the average recovery rate of
97.07 percent here.

The 15,530 recovered patients included 3,977 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh,
1,312 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,481 of
Thakurgaon, 4,604 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said
the number of fatalities remained steady at 311 with no more deaths reported
from anywhere on Thursday in the division. The district-wise break up of the
311 fatalities stands at 73 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 30
in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in
Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the
division,” he said.

Among the total 15,999 COVID-19 infected patients, 10 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,530 patients and 311
deaths while 148 are remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last,
a total of 4,57,686 citizens, including 2,81,579 male and 1,76,106 female,
were vaccinated in the division till Thursday,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
people to sincerely abide by the health directives to control the rising
infection rate of the deadly virus.
