Bangabandhu issued handwritten message on first armed resistance day of Joydebpur
DHAKA, March 18, 2021 (BSS) – Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had issued a message written by his own hand on March 19, 1972, marking the first armed resistance day of Joydebpur.
The 19th March of 1971 is a unique day in the history of country’s Liberation War as the freedom-loving people launched the first armed resistance against the Pakistani junta at Joydebpur in Gazipur.
In his message, Bangabandhu mentioned that the 19th March of 1971 is an another memorable day in the history of Bangladesh since all the peasants (farmers), students and people created massive resistance against the Pakistani military forces on that day under the joint leadership of Joydebpur Thana Awami League, Chhatra League and Sramik League.
He said they created the armed resistance when the Pakistani junta tried to make the soldiers of the 2nd Bengal Regiment of Joydebpur cantonment unarmed.
Military bullets claimed three valuable lives and made a huge number of people injured, the message read.
“Only a few days ago, on March 7 in 1971, I called for resistance urging all to build resistance (against Pakistanis) whatever they have. The residents of Joydebpur followed my call properly. I congratulate them,” Bangabandhu said in his message.
“No great work is achieved without sacrifice. Thus, the sacrifices of the martyrs – Niamat, Manu and Khalifa of Joydepur and hurmat of Chandna intersection — did not go in vain. The blood of martyrs does not go in vain. That is why an independent-sovereign Bangladesh is established today with the sacrifice of thousands of martyrs,” the message read.
