Rangpur records highest 21 COVID-19 cases in two months

RANGPUR, March 18, 2021 (BSS) – Twenty-one more coronavirus (COVID-19)
cases, the highest number in the last two months, were reported today after
diagnosing 242 samples at the daily infection rate of 8.68 percent in Rangpur
division.

Health officials said the daily infection rate continues showing a
rising trend in Rangpur division during the last more than one week period.

Earlier, the daily infection rate remained below the five percent mark
during the last more than one month and below the 10 percent mark during the
last more than two and a half months in the division.

Among the 21 new patients diagnosed today, nine were reported positive
after diagnosing only 54 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur
Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“The nine new patients include seven from Rangpur and one each from
Gaibandha and Kurigram districts,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service
and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi
Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 12 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC)
in Dinajpur today.

“The 12 new patients include six from Dinajpur, five from Nilphamari and
one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir
Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process tonight.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 15,999 as 21 new positive cases were reported today from across the
division.

The district-wise break up of total 15,999 patients stands at 4,093 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,368 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,027 in
Kurigram, 1,519 in Thakurgaon, 4,753 in Dinajpur and 1,475 in Gaibandha in
the division.
