Bangladesh missions abroad observe 101st birth anniversary of Bangabandhu

DHAKA, March 18, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh missions abroad observed the 101st
birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
and the National Children’s Day-2021 in a befitting manner.

Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations, New York, the
Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, DC, the Deputy High Commission of
Bangladesh, Mumbai, Bangladesh Embassy in Brasilia, the Embassy of Bangladesh
in Copenhagen, Denmark, Bangladesh High Commission, Ottawa, Canada, the
Consulate General of Bangladesh in Istanbul, the High Commission of
Bangladesh to Sri Lanka, Bangladesh High Commission, Abuja, Nigeria, Embassy
of Bangladesh in Athens, Greece and Bangladesh Embassy in Tashkent observed
the birth centenary of Bangabandhu with solemn dignity, according to messages
received here today.

Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations and Bangladesh Consulate
General, New York jointly celebrated the birth centenary of the greatest
Bengali of all time, Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
and National Children’s Day-2021.

The day-long programmes included hoisting of the national flag and playing
the national anthem at the Permanent Mission and Consulate in their
respective offices in the morning and placing wreaths at the portrait of the
Father of the Nation.

On the occasion of the day, the messages from President Md Abdul Hamid,
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and State
Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam were read out alongside holding
open discussion and cutting birthday cake for Bangabandhu.

Special prayers were offered at the Bangabandhu auditorium of the
Permanent Mission and at the Consulate General’s auditorium separately in the
morning seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and his
martyred family members.

In the afternoon, ‘Shishu Ananda-mela’ was held virtually through the
participation of children in a joint venture of the Permanent Mission and the
Consulate.

As a part of celebratory programmes of Bangladesh High Commission, Abuja,
Nigeria to observe the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a seminar was held titled ‘Relevance of Philosophy of
Bangabandhu in Africa and Beyond’ in Abuja University, Abuja, Nigeria on
March 17, 2021 in the morning.

The seminar focused on Bangabandhu’s philosophy and thoughts on foreign
policy, international relations and struggle for emancipation of mankind
across the world.

Professor Abdul-Rasheed Na’Allah, Vice Chancellor of Abuja University and
Masudur Rahman, High Commissioner of Bangladesh and Professor Dr Musa Olaofe,
Director of Asian Studies Centre of the university were discussants, among
others.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC celebrated the 101st Birth
Anniversary of Bangabandhu and the National Children’s Day, 2021 with due
respect and fervor.

On this occasion, Ambassador M Shahidul Islam hoisted the national flag on
the Chancery premises.

Later, accompanied by the officials of the Embassy, he placed a floral
wreath at the bust of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur
Rahman.

A discussion session was held at the Chancery highlighting the
significance of the day.

The messages from President Md Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
Foreign Minister Dr A.K. Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign Affairs
Md Shahriar Alam were read out there.

At the end of the programme, a special prayer was offered seeking divine
blessings and salvation of the departed souls of the Father of the Nation and
other members of his family.

In his concluding remarks, Ambassador M Shahidul Islam illuminated on
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s life and ideals.

He said that all must take lessons from the philosophy of Bangabandhu.

The Ambassador also urged all to contribute to building ‘Sonar Bangla’ as
dreamt by Bangabandhu.
