Coronavirus: 15,978 infected, 15,519 cured in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 18, 2021 (BSS) – Since the beginning of the coronavirus
(COVID-19) pandemic, a total of 15,978 people have been infected, and of
them, 15,519 cured in all eight districts of Rangpur division.

Health officials said the infection rate continues rising again in
recent days in the division where registered citizens are rushing to the
vaccination centres daily to take the COVID-19 vaccines with enormous
keenness.

The number of COVID-19 cases rose to 15,978 as 17 more patients were
reported after testing 282 samples at 6.03 percent infection rate on
Wednesday,” said Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for
Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,10,982 collected samples of Rangpur division
were tested till Wednesday, and of them, 15,978 people were found COVID-19
positive with an average infection rate of 14.40 percent.

The district-wise break up of total 15,978 patients stands at 4,086 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,363 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,026 in
Kurigram, 1,518 in Thakurgaon, 4,747 in Dinajpur and 1,474 in Gaibandha in
the division.

Among the total of 15,978 infected patients, 15,519 have healed so far
in the division at the average recovery rate of 97.13 percent

The 15,519 recovered patients include 3,970 of Rangpur, 773 of
Panchagarh, 1,311 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,479
of Thakurgaon, 4,603 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady at 311 with no more deaths reported from
anywhere on Wednesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 311 fatalities stands at 73 in
Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 30 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the
division,” he said.

Among the total 15,978 COVID-19 infected patients, 10 are undergoing
treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,519 patients and 311
deaths while 138 remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, a total of 4,37,053 citizens, including 2,71,205 male and 1,65,848
female, of all eight districts were vaccinated in the division till Tuesday
last,” Dr. Ali added.

Talking to BSS, Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention
Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM
Nurunnobi Lyzu said the vaccination campaign continues satisfactorily in
Rangpur division.

“Everyone should abide by the health directives and wear masks while
remaining outside, even after taking the COVID-19 vaccines, to check the
present rising trend in the spread of COVID-19 infection in the division,”
Dr. Lyzu added.
