18 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 17, 2021 (BSS) – Eighteen more people were reported
coronavirus (COVID-19) positive today in Rangpur division where the daily
infection rate continues showing a rising trend during the last more than one
week.

Health officials said the 18 new cases were reported after diagnosing 282
samples at two COVID-19 laboratories in the division today at the daily
infection rate of 6.38 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rate remained below the five percent mark
during the last one month and below the 10 percent mark during the last more
than two and a half months in the division.

Among the 18 new patients diagnosed today, six were reported positive after
diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College
(RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“All of the six new patients are hailing from Rangpur district,” Chief of
Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of
RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 12 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188
samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC)
in Dinajpur today. “The 12 new patients include nine from Dinajpur, two each
from Nilphamari and one from Thakurgaon districts,” Principal of MARMC
Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing
process tonight.

Talking to BSS, Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health)
for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients
rose to 15,979 as 18 new positive cases were reported today from across the
division.

“The district-wise break up of total 15,979 patients stands at 4,087 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,365 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,026 in
Kurigram, 1,520 in Thakurgaon, 4,747 in Dinajpur and 1,474 in Gaibandha in
the division,” he said.
