BD mission to India celebrates Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary

NEW DELHI, March 17, 2021 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission to India today
celebrated the 101st birth anniversary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu
Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the National Children’s Day-2021 in a befitting
manner.

On this day in 1920, Bangabandhu, the undisputed leader of the Bengali
nation, the architect of independent Bangladesh and the greatest Bangalee of
all times, was born in a respected Muslim family at Tungipara village of the
then Gopalganj sub-division, now a district.

The theme of this year’s birthday of Bangabandhu and National Children’s
Day is “Bangabandhur Janmadin, Shishur Ridoy Hok Rangin”.

The day’s programme began with hoisting of National flag at the chancery
premises in the morning.

Later, the High Commissioner flanked by senior officers of the mission
paid tribute to Bangabandhu by placing floral wreaths at the portrait of the
great leader.

A discussion was also held on the chancery premises about the life and
struggle of Bangabandhu, who struggled throughout his life for establishing
the rights of Bengali people and for the betterment of their livelihood.

High Commissioner Muhammad Imran and Defense Advisor to the mission Md.
Abul Kalam Azad took part in the discussion moderated by Minister (Political)
Nurul Islam.

Taking part in the discussion, Imran called upon the new generation to
learn from the life of Bangabandhu to be a worthy citizen so that they can
contribute towards building a “Sonar Bangla (Golden Bengal) as dreamt by the
father of the nation.

Earlier, messages from President M. Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina, Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen and State Minister for Foreign
Affairs Shahriar Alam were read out.

A special “Munajat” (prayers) was offered seeking divine blessings for
Bangabandhu and those who were brutally killed on the fateful night on August
15, 1975.

Later, in the afternoon, the mission organised arts-essay and public
speech competitions for the children of the mission officials and employees
highlighting the significance of the day.

The programmes were followed by a cultural evening joined by the family
members of the mission’s officers and employees.

Besides, similar programmes were also organised at the Bangladesh deputy
missions in Kolkata and Mumbai.
