COVID-19 cases reach 15,961 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 17, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19)
cases rose to 15,961 in all eight districts of Rangpur division where the
infection rate is rising again during the last more than one week.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,961 in the division as 15
more infections were reported on Tuesday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and
Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The 15 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 249 samples at the
two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Sunday at the daily infection
rate of 6.02 percent.

“Earlier, the infection rate remained below the five percent mark almost
during the last one month in Rangpur division,” he said.

“The district-wise break up of total 15,961 patients stands at 4,081 in
Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,361 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,026 in
Kurigram, 1,517 in Thakurgaon, 4,738 in Dinajpur and 1,474 in Gaibandha in
the division,” he said.

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a total of 1,10,700
collected samples were tested in the division till Tuesday, and of them,
15,961 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over
14.42 percent.

Among the total of 15,961 infected patients, 15,519 have healed in the
division at the average recovery rate of 97.23 percent

The 15,519 recovered patients include 3,970 of Rangpur, 773 of
Panchagarh, 1,311 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,479
of Thakurgaon, 4,603 of Dinajpur and 1,449 of Gaibandha districts in the
division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the
number of fatalities remained steady at 311 with no more death reported from
anywhere on Tuesday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 311 fatalities stands at 73 in
Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 30 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram,
20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the
division,” he said.

The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.95 percent in the
division.

Among the total 15,961 COVID-19 patients, nine are undergoing treatments
at isolation units after recovery of 15,519 patients and 311 deaths while 122
remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7
last, a total of 4,37,053 citizens, including 2,71,205 male and 1,65,848
female, were vaccinated in the division till Tuesday,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and
Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged
people to abide by the health directives to check the rising infection rate
of the deadly virus.
