CIID seizes 24,990 cartons of illegal cigarettes
CHATTOGRAM, March 16, 2021 (BSS)- The Customs Intelligence and
Investigation Department (CIID) seized illegal cigarettes worth Tk 12 crore
in the consignment of A-4 size white paper in Chattogram port.
Officials of the department found 24,990 cartons packed with 49,98,000
sticks of cigarettes instead of white paper during a physical examination of
the consignment held at Chattogram port today.
Reazaul Karim, assistant director of CIID, told BSS that the consignment
arrived at Chattogram port on February 2 in the name of JK Stationary Limited
situated in city’s Panchliash area with the announcement of ‘A-4, Size white
paper’.
The consignment was imported from Dubai, he said, adding legal actions
would be taken against the culprits in this connection.
