Govt. embarks upon a solar roadmap-2041 to increase energy production from renewable sources – Nasrul

DHAKA, March 16, 2021 (BSS) – State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the government has prepared Solar Roadmap-2041 and year-based power generation plan to increase energy production from renewable sources.

Reviewing the master plan of the power system, he said the government has attached utmost importance to power generation from gas-based and renewable sources.

“The government has been giving incentives to increase share of clean energy in Bangladesh’s energy management and special incentives for Solar Home System (SHS) now increased to six million,” he said this at a function yesterday.

The state minister said this while delivering a speech on the sideline of the 7th Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue titled “Structural Change for a Carbon-Free Future” by joining virtually as a panelist.

“Imported electricity will also make a special contribution to the master plan and 1160 MW of power is now being imported from India while process for importing hydropower from Nepal and Bhutan is also underway,” Nasrul said.

He said nuclear power plant with generation capacity of 2400 MW has been installed and Bangladesh is constructing regional grid for expansion of electricity trade in cooperation of BIMSTEC, SASEC, D-8, SAARC regional and sub regional forums.

Outlining the planning and strategy of Bangladesh’s energy sector he said the government has been implementing programmes giving priority of the Sustainable Development of the United Nations,.

Head of Programmes, German development partner GIZ Sandra Retzer moderated the webinar.

Among others, Strait Secretary of Ministry of Energy, Chile, Francisco Javier Lopez, Ukraine Deputy Minister for Regional Development Ivan Lukeria, Federal Economic Affairs and Deputy Director General of Energy Ministry Ulrich Benterbusch and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Power, India, Vivek Kumar Dewangan joined the webinar and delivered their speeches.
