Everyone must stay free from militancy: IGP
DHAKA, March 15, 2021 (BSS) – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Dr Benazir Ahmed today said that militancy is the enemy of Islam, so everyone would have to stay free from it.
“Militancy is the enemy of Islam. Muslims have been the most persecuted because of the militants,” he said this while addressing a gathering of students as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Police Service Foundation organised scholarship giving ceremony amongst meritorious children of police officers on Rajarbagh police lines auditorium.
Chaired by Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Industrial Police and vice president of the organisation Md Mahbubur Rahman, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Additional IGP Dr Md Moinur Rahman Chowdhury, Additional Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Krishnapad Roy, Narayanganj Police Super and General Secretary of Bangladesh Police Service Association Mohammad Zayedul Alam and scholarship-recipient student Afroza Parveen.
Dr Benazir Ahmed said that bloodshed of Muslims has been occurring by militants so everyone must stay free from militancy.
“We have to practice religion consciously. Religious customs and values should be practiced along with awareness,” he said.
Mentioning drugs eliminate all possibilities, the IGP said, “You have to stay away from drugs. You have to prepare yourself as a proud citizen of the country.”
Heads of various units of police, senior police officers, meritorious students and their parents were present on the occasion.
A minute silence was observed in honour of the policemen who sacrificed their lives on duty.
Describing new generation students as the future of the nation, the police chief said the Bangali nation is unique in talent and pioneer in mind.
He said three Noble awardees are Bangalis out of four in the subcontinent, which means that Bangalis are unique in talent.
“You will be a beacon of light in your debut as a proud citizen of this country,” Dr Benazir said.
He said, “We got independence due to the generosity of Bangabandhu. You were born in an independent country and the country is going to be a developing one. Hunger-poverty is now on the verge of defeat. Extreme poverty will not be found in Bangladesh in the next three to four years.”
In the last 12 years, Bangladesh has made tremendous progress under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Bangladesh will rule in the international arena within the next 10 to 12 years, the IGP said.
Later, the IGP handed over the certificates and scholarships to the meritorious students.
The Bangladesh Police Service Association awarded 124 scholarships in 2020 to students for their outstanding results in PEC, JSC, SSC, O’ Level and Higher Education.
