COVID-19 cases reach 15,928 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 15, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases reached 15,928 in all eight districts of Rangpur division where the infection rate is rising again now.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,928 in the division as eight more infections were reported on Sunday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS.

The eight positive cases were diagnosed after testing 169 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Sunday at the daily infection rate of 4.73 percent.

“The infection rate remained below the five percent mark amid an increasing recovery rate of infected patients almost during the last one month in Rangpur division,” he said.

“The district-wise break up of total 15,928 infected patients stands at 4,073 in Rangpur, 796 in Panchagarh, 1,345 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,026 in Kurigram, 1,515 in Thakurgaon, 4,732 in Dinajpur and 1,473 in Gaibandha of the division,” Siddiqui added.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,10,268 collected samples were tested in the division till Sunday, and of them, 15,928 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 14.44 percent.

Among the total of 15,928 infected patients, 15,505 have healed in the division at the average recovery rate of 97.34 percent

The 15,505 recovered patients include 3,970 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,303 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,477 of Thakurgaon, 4,602 of Dinajpur and 1,446 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 309 with no more death reported from anywhere on Sunday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 309 fatalities stands at 72 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 29 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,928 COVID-19 patients, nine are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,505 patients and 309 deaths while 105 remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last, a total of 4,11,361 citizens, including 2,58,009 male and 1,53,352 female, were vaccinated in the division till Sunday,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu urged people to abide by the health directives to check the rising trend in the infection rate of the deadly virus.
