RAJSHAHI, March 14, 2021 (BSS)- Local Government, Rural Development and
Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Tazul Islam, MP, has urged the authority of
Rajshahi City Corporation (RCC) to build the Rajshahi city as planned one for
safe habitat.

He said all the development projects must be adopted and implemented
taking the issue of sustainability and socio-economic development into
consideration on priority basis.

The LGRD Minister came up with remarks while addressing a civic meeting
at RCC Green Plaza Saturday evening as chief guest. On the occasion, the city
corporation has accorded a civic reception to the minister.

Chaired by Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, the meeting was
addressed by Ayen Uddin, MP, Prof Monsur Rahman, MP, Advocate Adiba Anjum
Mita, MP, and Senior Secretary to the Local Government Division Helaluddin
Ahmed as special guests.

Rajshahi Divisional Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir, Deputy Inspector
General of Police Abdul Baten, Additional Commissioner of Rajshahi
Metropolitan Police Sujayet Islam and Deputy Commissioner Abdul Jalil also
spoke.

Minister Tajul Islam said all government organizations have to make a
concerted effort to ensure coordination among all public utility
organizations for successful implementation of all the development projects
so that the public in general can derive their total benefits. Earlier, the
minister visited the proposed Bangabandhu Riverview City Area Project riding
on a speedboat.

Mayor Liton apprised the minister that Rajshahi City Corporation has
planned to reclaim around 12 square kilometres of char land of Padma river
for developing a satellite town adjacent to the city protection embankment.

As the river’s main flow turned towards its right bank, the satellite
town might be built on the left bank.

Liton said the part of the river near the left bank, where flood water
remains for less than a month every year, would be turned into a huge lake.
The lake would stand between the satellite town and the city protection
embankment and there would be a bridge to the newly developed city, he added.

“Rajshahi would be beautiful if we can properly execute the plan,” the
mayor said, adding that “the city’s accommodation problems will be eased as
well.”

Besides, LGRD Minister Tazul Islam spent a busy day by inaugurating and
visiting different development projects in the city yesterday.

During the visit, the minister talked to the newsmen saying Rajshahi
City Corporation has been implementing various need-based projects which will
give a new look to the metropolis in near future.

Rajshahi city has already become a clean and green city with different
uplift projects, he added.

LGRD Minister also enquired about the projects being implemented under
the ministry’s local government division in Rajshahi division at Circuit
House conference hall.
