Lawmaker Mahmud Us Samad laid to rest

SYHET, March 12, 2021 (BSS) – Awami League Lawmaker of Sylhet-3 constituency Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury was buried at the graveyard close to his Nurpur village home besides Delwar Hossen Chowdhury Jame mosque here this afternoon.

Before burial, his Namaz-e-Janaza was held at Kasim Ali government high school premises at Fenchuganj in Sylhet around 5.15pm.

Earlier, his body was flown to Shahjalal fertilizer factory at Fenchuganj from the capital through an Air-Force helicopter around 12.00 noon. Several thousand male and female were seen standing on both sides of the road when the lawmaker’s body was taken to Fenchuganj.

Later, his body was taken to his village home at Nurpur and kept there for few hours till 4pm to facilitate the cross section of people including ruling party and its associate body leaders to show respect to the late leader.

Ruling party central and local top leaders, Sylhet division present and former lawmakers, DIG of Sylhet, divisional commissioner, deputy commissioner, police super, upzial parishad chairmen, Upazila Nirbahi Officers, high officials, political leaders and Islami scholars, among others, joined the Namaz-e-Janaza.

Mahmud Us Samad Chowdhury who was also Sheikh Rasell Jatiya Shishu Kishore Parishad’s central Secretary General, died of coronavirus infection at the United Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. He was 66.

On February 10, the lawmaker received his first dose of coronavirus vaccine.

President M Abdul Hamid, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Deputy Speaker, cabinet members, Awami league and its associate body leaders, different professional body leaders issued separate condolence messages and prayed for eternal peace of his departed soul.
