Rohonpur to be turned into full-fledged railway port: Sujan

CHAPAINAWABGANJ, March 12, 2021 (BSS)- Railways Minister Md. Nurul Islam Sujan today said Rohonpur would be turned into a railway port to increase business with Nepal and Bhutan.

He was addressing a gathering at the station platform after his visit to the Rohonpur Railway Station under Gomostapur upazila in Chapainawabganj district this afternoon.

The minister said Sheikh Hasina’s government is the government of development.

Massive development programmes have been going on in the country, he added.

Sujan said Rohonpur is an important railway station because it has a commercial link with India and Nepal and after adding link with Bhutan this commercial route would be enriched further.

He added that the government has agreed with India to extend railway to Bhutan with a view to increasing business.

Responding to the local demands the minister announced that the trains that were suspended due to corona would be reintroduced before Ramadan.

Additional boggies would be given for carrying mangoes and vegetables at cheaper rate, he said.

During his visit, lawmaker of Shibganj constituency Dr. Shamil Uddin Ahmed Shimul, railway secretary Md. Salim Reza, former lawmakers Md. Abdul Wadud, Md. Ziaur Rahman and Md. Golam Mostofa Biswas and other Awami League leaders accompanied him.
