COVID-19 cases cross 15,900 in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 12, 2021 (BSS) – The number of coronavirus (COVID-19) positive cases has crossed the 15,900-mark in Rangpur division where the infection rate started rising again during the last few days.

“The number of coronavirus cases rose to 15,910 in the division with 12 more infections reported on Thursday,” Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui told BSS today.

The 12 positive cases were diagnosed after testing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 Laboratories in the division on Thursday at the daily infection rate of 4.26 percent.

“The infection rate remained below the five percent mark amid an increasing recovery rate of infected patients during the last almost one month in Rangpur division where the infection rate is showing a rising trend again now,” he said.

The district-wise break up of total 16,910 patients stands at 4,067 in Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,342 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,024 in Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,731 in Dinajpur and 1,470 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui added.

Since the beginning, a total of 1,09,888 collected samples were tested in the division till Thursday, and of them, 15,910 were found COVID-19 positive with an average infection rate of over 14.48 percent.

Meanwhile, the number of recovered COVID-19 patients rose to 15,497 with the recovery of five more infected people in the division on Thursday at the average recovery rate of about 97.40 percent.

The 15,497 recovered patients include 3,970 of Rangpur, 773 of Panchagarh, 1,303 of Nilphamari, 954 of Lalmonirhat, 980 of Kurigram, 1,477 of Thakurgaon, 4,602 of Dinajpur and 1,438 of Gaibandha districts in the division.

Talking to BSS today, Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Md. Ahad Ali said the number of fatalities remained steady at 309 with no more death reported from anywhere on Thursday in the division.

The district-wise break up of the 309 fatalities stands at 72 in Rangpur, 111 in Dinajpur, 34 in Thakurgaon, 29 in Nilphamari, 15 in Kurigram, 20 in Panchagarh, 17 in Gaibandha and 11 in Lalmonirhat districts of the division,” he said.

“The average casualty rate currently stands at 1.94 percent in the division,” he said.

Among the total 15,910 COVID-19 patients, seven are undergoing treatments at isolation units after recovery of 15,497 patients and 309 deaths while 97 remaining in home isolation across the division.

“Since launching of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign from February 7 last, a total of 3,88,946 citizens, including 2,45,641 male and 1,43,305 female, were vaccinated in the division till Thursday,” Dr. Ali added.

Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of Rangpur Medical College Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said people should abide by the health directives to check the rising trend in the infection rate in the division.
