14 more reported COVID-19 positive in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 11, 2021 (BSS) – Fourteen more people were tested positive for coronavirus today in Rangpur division where the daily infection rates is showing a rising trend during the past few days.

Health officials said the 14 new cases were reported after diagnosing 282 samples at the two COVID-19 laboratories in the division at the daily infection rate of 4.96 percent.

Earlier, the daily infection rate remained below the five percent mark almost during the last one month and below the 10 percent mark during the last more than two and a half months in the division.

Among the 14 new patients diagnosed, four were reported positive after diagnosing 94 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at Rangpur Medical College (RpMC) in Rangpur city.

“All of the four new patients are hailing from different areas in Rangpur district,” Chief of Divisional Coronavirus Service and Prevention Task Force and Principal of RpMC Professor Dr. AKM Nurunnobi Lyzu said.

On the other hand, 10 new patients were reported after diagnosing 188 samples at the COVID-19 Laboratory at M Abdur Rahim Medical College (MARMC) in Dinajpur.

“The 10 new COVID-19 patients include eight from Dinajpur and two from Nilphamari districts,” Principal of MARMC Professor Dr. Syed Nazir Hossain told BSS after completing the testing process tonight.

Focal Person of COVID-19 and Assistant Director (Health) for Rangpur division Dr. ZA Siddiqui said the number of COVID-19 patients rose to 16,912 as 14 new positive cases were reported today from across the division.

“The district-wise break up of total 16,912 patients stands at 4,068 in Rangpur, 795 in Panchagarh, 1,342 in Nilphamari, 968 in Lalmonirhat, 1,023 in Kurigram, 1,513 in Thakurgaon, 4,733 in Dinajpur and 1,470 in Gaibandha,” Dr. Siddiqui added.
