DHAKA, March 11, 2020 (BSS) – The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Shipping today recommended exploring the overall potential of Mongla and Payra ports and preparing plans to this end.
The recommendations were made at its 29th meeting held at Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban with its chairman Major (retd) Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, in the chair, an official release said.
The committee also recommended exploring the prospective of expanding the size of Dublar Char by sand filling. The committee proposed keeping similar basic structure, policies and opportunities of Chattogram, Mongla and Payra port.
Committee members Shahjahan Khan, Md Mazharul Haque Prodhan, Ranajit Kumar Roy, Aslam Hossain Saudagar and SM Shahjada attended the meeting, among others.
The meeting also recommended for buying hovercraft by scrutinizing the price and its potential for using by the port authorities during a disaster period.
Senior officials of the Shipping Ministry and Jatiya Sangsad were present at the meeting.
