Stocks witness downtrend as major sector dip

DHAKA, March 10, 2021 (BSS) – Both the stock markets were down further
today due to mainly price fall in large-cap securities despite higher
transactions.

DSEX, the benchmark index of the Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE), went down
by 27.72 points or 0.50 per cent to settle at 5,563.67. Two other indices
also saw massive corrections. The DSE 30 Index blue chips plunged 15.49
points to finish at 2,149.93 and the DSE Shariah Index (DSES) slumped 2.27
points to close at 1,263.86.

Turnover, a crucial indicator of the market, stood at Taka 8797.371
million, which was Taka 10,433.888 million at the previous session of the
week.

LRBDL dominated the turnover chart followed by Beximco, Robi, LHBL and
Sumit Power. LRBDL was the day’s best performer, gaining 49.88 per cent while
BIFC was the day’s worst loser, shedding 6.98 per cent.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) also fell sharply with the CSE All
Share Price Index – CASPI -losing 83.05 points to settle at 16,173.68 and the
Selective Categories Index – CSCX shedding 50.15 points to close at 9,756.70.

Of the issues traded, 116 declined, 50 advanced and 60 remained
unchanged on the CSE.

The port city’s bourse traded 1.29 crore shares and mutual fund units
with turnover value of Taka 63.94 crore.
