Police SI’s wife sent to jail

CHATTOGRAM, March 9, 2021 (BSS) – A Chattogram court today sent Golzar Begum, 48, wife of Nawab Ali, a sub-inspector of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to jail in a case filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).

Chattogram Metropolitan Sessions Judge Sheikh Ashfaqur Rahman sent Begum to jail after she surrenders before the court around 11:30 am.

The accused sought bail before the court the judge denied bail and ordered her to be sent to jail. Golzar Begum is a resident of Lalmari Bazar Chanmari area under Khulshi thana in the city. Her husband Nawab Ali is working as a SI of CID in Dhaka. Court sources said SI Nawab Ali has made his wife Golzar Begum the owner of the money earned through corruption. ACC claimed that she has earned Taka one crore 36 lakh six thousand from fish farming.

But in reality the existence of fish farming was not found during the investigation.

ACC filed a case against SI Nawab Ali, his wife Golzar Begum, former Additional Assistant Tax Commissioner of Tax Region-1 Chattogram Bahar Uddin Chowdhury and Tax Inspector Dipankar Ghosh, on October 9, 2020.

Earlier, the court issued arrest warrants against the four accused on February 25.

The next hearing date is scheduled for April 6.
