CHATTOGRAM, March 9, 2021 (BSS)- Kotwali thana police today in a drive arrested Farhad Hossain Rubel, an accused of a murder case who escaped from Chattogram Central Jail on March 6.
A team of Kotwali thana police arrested Farhad Hossain Rubel this noon from Ballakandi Char area of Raipura thana under Narsingdi district.
Nezam Uddin, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kotwali thana, told BSS this afternoon.
Khulna DIG Prison Chagir Mia, head of the investigation committee formed by the jail authorities told BSS that Rubel escaped from Chattogram central jail at 5:15 am on March 6. The Jail authority confirmed his escaping time and way after reviewing south border side CCTV footage inside the jail, he added.
He said that Rubel was kept with other detainees on the sixth floor of Karnafuli Bhaban (Punishment Ward No. 15). The detainees who commit criminal acts inside the prison are kept there for twenty-four hours. He added that ruble came out from the ground floor of the Karnafuli building.
Another CCTV footage showed that Rubel jumping from the building next to the gallows stage outside the boundary wall.
Rubel stabbed a Bhangari businessman Abul Kalam Abu in the chest on February 5 in the SRB Rail Gate area under city’s Sadarghat thana. Kalam died at the hospital on February 6 while undergoing treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Victim’s mother Morzina Begum filed a murder case at Sadarghat thana. Rubel was arrested in that case.
