BCB positive in lifting pacer Shahadat Hossain’s ban

DHAKA, March 8, 2021 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) looks
positive in lifting the ban of the former national fast bowler Shahadat
Hossain Rajib, considering his family problems.

Shahadat had recently applied to the BCB to lift his ban, citing the reason
that his mother is a cancer patient and for her treatment he needs huge
money.

The former fast bowler was accused of multiple charges before he was
finally banned from the cricket for five years. But the board seemed to be
flexible this time around, considering humanitarian reasons.

“He broke a discipline during the last season’s NCL. The cricket board then
banned him for five years. I saw it on TV a few days ago and he called me
personally and also gave me a letter as he was having a big family problem,”
BCB Cricket Operations Chairman Akram Khan said here today.

“His mother has been suffering from incurable cancer and naturally he needs
money for the treatment but he is unable to play any cricket. Considering his
case, I’ve talked to some directors, especially Ismail Haider Mallick and
Naimur Rahman Durjoy. They have responded positively. We’ve requested the
Chairman of the Disciplinary Committee. I hope some positive thing will come
from there. We’ve also informed the matter to our board president Nazmul
Hassan Papon and he is also positive. I hope he can play cricket again.”

Shahadat who had already a bad disciplinary record, made the situation
worse for him again by physically assaulting a player in a National Cricket
League (NCL) game two years. The BCB then had no other way but to ban him
from the cricket for five years along with slapping a fine of Taka 3 lakh.

On November 18, 2019, at the Sheikh Abu Nasser Stadium in Khulna, Dhaka
Division pacer Mohammad Shahid first pushed his teammate Arafat Sunny Junior
into an argument during the sixth round match of the NCL against the host
Khulna Division. Then Shahadat Hossain Rajib came and physically assaulted
Sunny.

The BCB has also suspended Mohammad Shahid and Arafat Sunny Junior for a
year in the same incident.

Shahadat who has played 38 Tests, 51 ODIs and six T20Is between 2005 and
2015, hasn’t been in the national frame since he was arrested in 2015 for
beating up his domestic help, which led to a temporary suspension.
