Ireland Wolves series to go as planned after negative Covid-19 result

DHAKA, March 7, 2021 (BSS)- The Bangladesh Emerging Team’s one-day and T20
series against Ireland Wolves will go as planned after all the members and
staff of the two teams were tested Covid-19 negative.

The fate of the series became uncertain after the first one-day game was
called off following the positive Covid-19 result of an Irish player Ruhan
Pretorious. He returned Covid-19 positive in review result even though ahead
of the first game, all players of the both teams were tested negative.

However, after the first game was called off, the payers and staff were
again tested and this time all of them including Pretorius returned negative.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) then in consultation with the Ireland
restarted the series and the second game was held in which Bangladesh won by
four wickets.

“The player in question underwent the covid-19 test and the result came out
negative,” the BCB CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury said here today.

“We’ve conducted the test of all the players and officials of both the
teams and all tested negative. As everything is under control the series will
continue according to the previous schedule,” he added.

The visiting Ireland Wolves lost the solitary four-day game by 23 runs.

The two teams tomorrow will travel back to Dhaka, where they will play the
rest of the three one-day matches of five-match one-day series and two T20s.

The next three matches slotted for March 9, 12 and 14. The two sides are
also scheduled to play two T20s on March 17 and 18.
