Bangladesh Emerging Team beats Irelands Wolves by 4 wickets

DHAKA, March 7, 2021 (BSS)- Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shamim Hossain hit half-centuries as Bangladesh Emerging Team thrashed Ireland Wolves by four wickets in the second one-day game of the five-match series at Zahur Ahmed Chowhdury Stadium in Chattogram today.

The victory put Bangladesh team into 1-0 lead in the series. The first game was called off after an Irish player Ruhan Pretorious was found Covid-19 positive in review result.

Players of the both teams and staff then were tested again but all of them including Pretorius returned negative, paving the way for the second match to be held.

Pretorius however struck a delightful 90 after opening the innings as Ireland Wolves posted 263-7 after being sent to bat first. Pretorious also claimed a wicket but his all-round effort went in vain, as Bangladesh Emerging team cantered to the victory with 264-6 in 49.4 overs.

Joy struck 66 off 95, clattering five fours and most importantly steadied the innings after Bangladesh stumbled following a good start. As he set up the things up front, Shamim Hossain gave the finishing touch, being not out on 53 off 39, a quickfire knock studded with three fours and two sixes.

Yasir Ali and Towhid Riody contributed with identical 31 runs and stitched some good partnerships with Joy and Shamim to sail the side home without any fuss. Captain and opener Saif Hassan made 36. Ben White was the most successful bowler for Ireland Wolves with 2-45.

For Bangladesh Emerging Team, Sumon Khan and Rakibul Hasan claimed two wickets apiece to derail the Irish innings. But Pretorious held together the innings in impeccable fashion to help the side-post a respectable total.

Opener James McCollum gave him apt support with 41 while Stephen Doheny made 37. Skipper Harry Tector contributed with 31.
