Bangabandhu, in fact, declared independence through March 7 speech: Rezaul

DHAKA, Mar 7, 2021 (BSS) – Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had, in fact, declared the country’s independence through his fiery speech on March 7 in 1971.

“On March 7 in 1971, in fact, Bangabandhu declared the independence before tens of thousands of people and undoubtedly called for liberation war,” he told a discussion through videoconferencing from his secretariat office here.

Pirojpur district administration arranged the discussion marking the historic 7 March national day, a ministry press release said.

Speaking as the chief guest, Rezaul said Bangabandhu declared the country’s independence on March 26 in 1971 but he called upon the nation through his March 7 speech to get prepared.

He said the way Bangabandhu delivered his March 7 speech depicting the nation’s history, present context and future plan, no nationalist leader of the world was able to do so.

“That’s why Bangabandhu’s March 7 speech is a surprise to the world,” Rezaul added.

Chaired by Deputy Commissioner of Pirojpur Abu Ali Md Sajjad Hossain, the function was attended, among others, by Pirojpur District Chief Executive Officer Rebecca Khan, Pirojpur District Awami League General Secretary MA Hakim Hawlader, Pirojpur District Juba League President Akhtaruzzaman Fulu and its General Secretary Ziaul Ahsan, former Freedom Fighter Commander Gautam Narayan Roy Chowdhury, Pirojpur District Puja Ujjapan Parishad General Secretary Gopal Basu, Pirojpur District Chhatra League President Zahid Khan Titu, Juba League Central Committee Member Kamruzzaman Shamim and Pirojpur District Awami Ulema League General Secretary Faruq Abdullah.
