Commerce secretary level meeting between Bangladesh, India tomorrow

DHAKA, March 7, 2021 (BSS) – The daylong commerce secretary level meeting
between Bangladesh and India will be held tomorrow in the capital in a bid to
boost bilateral trade, removing the existing trade barriers and thus
expanding economic cooperation.

Bangladesh Commerce Secretary Dr Md Jafar Uddin will led the Bangladesh
delegation at the meeting while Indian Commerce and Industries Secretary Anup
Wadhawan will led his respective part which to be held at Hotel
Intercontinental, Dhaka, said a press release here today.

The release said that the Bangladesh delegation will comprise
representatives from Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Industries, Textiles and
Jute, Shipping, Bangladesh Trade and Tariff Commission, National Board of
Revenue (NBR), BSTI, Roads and Highways Division, Export Promotion Bureau
(EPB) and the Ministry of Commerce.

The possible agendas of the meeting are to review the progress of the
decisions taken in the last commerce secretary level meeting between the two
countries held on January 15-16, 2020, held in New Delhi, reviewing the
progress of the 13th Joint Working Group (JWG) meeting on trade between
Bangladesh and India.

The other agendas of the meeting are removing the existing tariff and non-
tariff barriers between the two countries, discussing on the issue of imposed
anti-dumping duty on some Bangladeshi products by India, looking into the
feasibility of signing Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA)
between the two countries.

Besides, the meeting will also discuss the issue of increasing the number
of border huts as well as increasing border trade, expanding the port
facilities between the two countries, making more effective the various
regional forums in participation of Bangladesh and India alongside other
trade related issues.
