Shomi Kaiser gets acquittal in defamation case
DHAKA, March 7, 2021 (BSS) – A Dhaka court has acquitted actress Shomi
Kaiser from a defamation case of Taka 100 crore filed by a journalist.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order,
accepting the final report filed by Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in
this case.
Earlier on March 3, PBI inspector Lutfur Rahman submitted the final
report, saying he did not find any witnesses against Shomi.
The court accepted the final report on March 4 and acquitted Shomi from the
case.
Miah Md Nuzhatul Hasan, editor of Student Journal BD, an online news
outlet, filed the case on April 30, 2019. The plaintiff in his case had
alleged that Shomi mistreated newsmen and termed them as thieves at a
function at National Press Club.
